KazakhTelecom JSC is the leading telecommunication operator of Kazakhstan and one of most dynamically developing telecommunication companies on post-Soviet territory, providing wide range of information and communication services. Government Fund of National Welfare “Samruk – Kazyna” has 51% of KazakhTelecom JSC shares. The central office of company is located in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana. The company employs more than 30 thousands people. KazakhTelecom JSC has regional subdivisions in every region of the country and provides the telecommunication services across all territory of the country. The company serves more than 3, 333 millions of fixed-line telephony users. The average telephony density in Kazakhstan is 21,3 telephones per 100 persons. Being the international telecommunication operator, KazakhTelecom closely co-operates with more 40 operators of far and near abroad countries. KazakhTelecom JSC also implements a number of large-scale infrastructural projects, the modernisation and digitalisation of telecommunications networks, introduction of new technologies and installation of telephone network in rural areas and development of broadcast access to Internet. Currently Kazakhstan has independent and competitive telecommunication network, the functioning of which in many respects is stipulated by a large project of state importance being implemented by KazakhTelecom JSC – installation of basic ring of National Informational Super Backbone (NISB). The realisation of this project promoted further important step on the way of creation of “digital state”, formation of “electronic government” infrastructure along with creation of “information-oriented society”. NISB will also contribute to integration of Kazakhstan in the world informational space. NISB includes the fibre-optic communication links more than 11,500 km long, connecting the regional centres of republic, Almaty and Astana. Within the process of NISB design and installation such important factors as advantageous geographic location of republic, organisation of digit inter-city telecommunication , providing of quality and reliability of international and intercity channels, organisation of telecommunication with neighbouring countries were taken into account. The important directions of telecommunication sector development are modernisation and development of local telecommunication network, installation of data communication network and introduction of new services. KazakhTelecom JSC develops IP/MPLS highway networks. Within the project the multi-service routers are installed, providing the large-scale introduction of new data communication services. Broadcast access to Internet based on ADSL technology, or Megaline, IP VPN have been launched in 2006 year in regional and rayon centres of Kazakhstan. The total number of KazakhTelecom JSC Internet users (including subsidiaries) in 2008 was more than 1 mln. 190 thousand of people, that is 41,5% higher than in 2007. The toal broadband users (including subsidiaries) is more than 660 thousands of people. The growth in comparing with 2007 – 124,5%. In the framework of the government program “30 Corporate Kazakhstan Leaders” KazakhTelecom JSC has accomplished installation of highway intercity network of new generation, NGN (Next Generation Networks). Today, KazakhTelecom JSC is the first telecommunication operator in CIS, which had executed the country-wide transfer to NGN inter-city connection networks. In distinction from traditional inter-city communication network NGN is based on IP technology. This solution will contribute to NGN network expansion to provide local network communication. In 2008 KazakhTelecom JSC has launched into exploitation the NGN networks in the following Kazakhstan cities: Petropavlovsk, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Semipalatinsk and Shymkent. The NGN networks in the cities of Atyrau, Kokshetau and Aktobe are being under construction. In the framework of the government program “30 Corporate Kazakhstan Leaders” KazakhTelecom JSC has started realization of “Modernization and Development of the Rural Telecommunication Services with the use of CDMA Technology”. The Digital format of wireless CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) services allows to provide rural areas with the telephone connection by means of the radio access. The zone of coverage of the basic CDMA-450 station in the rural area is 25-35 km. This breakthrough project has been under realization from 2008 by a subsidiary od KazakhTelecom JSC – Vostoktelecom LLP. 200 basic stations were installed in 12 regions. It was the installation of telephones in the electrified perspective rural populated areas implemented in the framework of the Government Program of the Rural Territories Development for 2004-2010. Along with this since 2006 KazakhTelecom JSC carries on wireless Internet access projects based on Wi-Fi and Wi-Mах technologies. In order to expand and diversify its activities KazakhTelecom JSC is looking for entering foreign markets and providing some structural changes to set an optimal structure of transnational operator. The representative offices of the company in China and Tajikistan were opened in 2006 year. Besides, with a view to use of Kazakhstan advantageous geographical position in the centre of the Eurasian region and transitional potential, KazakhTelecom JSC conducts the modernization of the present junction and builds new junctions of the main networks with the foreign operators’ telecommunications. The successful activities of KazakhTelecom JSC were marked by EuroMoney, an international publishing house. In 2005 year KazakhTelecom JSC was nominated the best telecommunication company of CIS and in 2006 year – the best telecommunication company in Central Asia. Kazakhstan’s stock exchange had awarded KazakhTelecom JSC by the honorary diploma among other emitters with valuable securities circulating at the organised market of Kazakhstan for more than 10 years. The stocks of KazakhTelecom JSC are traded on KASE from 1997 year. Now they are one of the most liquid equity instruments on exchange traded market of Kazakhstan. The following 4 priority targets are defined for further KazakhTelecom JSC development: service quality improvement and expansion of the range of products and services, broadband access and Internet development, efficient implementation of new services with the added cost, growth in the mobile segment, entering external markets. The services quantity growth and its expansion, technology innovations, flexible tariff policy and development of mutually beneficial contacts with other operators are basic priorities of the company development policy. These targets have become especially urgent in the context of liberalisation of telecommunication market and competition expansion. The successful realisation of targets and outlooks will make it possible for KazakhTelecom JSC to become the full member of international telecommunication community contributing to Kazakhstan’s entering the list of Top 50 in the context of telecommunication sector development.
